If you are one of the lucky millions who saw Spider-Man: No Way Home, we're sure you had more than a few takeaways after viewing. Maybe you wanted to immediately see it again, this time with more popcorn. Or you vowed to visit the real-life donut shop featured in the film. Or, like many other web-heads, you were somewhat surprised that Andrew Garfield—whose The Amazing Spider-Man films were long criticized—was of the best parts of the film, and left theaters wanting to see his Spidey again.
For those of you in the we-want-more-Andrew-Garfield camp, we have some good news. After journalists badgered the poor man for months about his rumored involvement in No Way Home—and he repeatedly denied the gossip—Garfield finally surfaced admit that, yes, he is in No Way Home. In a new interview with Variety, Garfield talked about what it took for him to sign on for the film, acting alongside Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire, and if he'd ever return to the role again.
Here's what Garfield said about a potential return to Spider-Man after No Way Home: "I mean, yes, definitely open to something if it felt right," Garfield said. "Peter and Spider-Man, those characters are all about service, to the greater good and the many. He’s a working-class boy from Queens that knows struggle and loss and is deeply empathetic. I would try to borrow Peter Parker’s ethical framework in that, if there was an opportunity to step back in and tell more of that story, I would have to feel very sure and certain in myself."
Almost since the moment the credits rolled on No Way Home, fans have wondered whether or not The Amazing Spider-Man 3, featuring Garfield, will ever happen and his comments here should only fuel the clamor. If the film got the go-ahead, we'd love to see Emma Stone somehow return as Gwen Stacy. Hey, maybe Garfield's Spidey will be the one who gets to square off against Tom Hardy's Venom, too.
While you dream up that fight in your head, we'll leave you with a perfect No Way Home story, told by Garfield. "I snuck into a theater on opening night and just watched with my baseball cap on and my mask," Garfield told Entertainment Tonight. "In fact, I was also with Tobey, me and Tobey snuck into a theater together and no one knew we were there. It was just a really beautiful thing to share together."
