One of the three Spider-Men is officially an Oscar-nominated actor, and it's Andrew Garfield.

On February 8 the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed that Garfield is in the running to take home the Oscar for best actor for his portrayal of musical theater composer Jonathan Larson in Tick, Tick…Boom! While this may have been the actor's best performance of 2021—if not the best of his career—it's far from the only one.

Not only did Garfield star alongside fellow Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain in The Eyes of Tammy Faye, but he also made a triumphant return to the role of Peter Parker in the record-breaking Marvel blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home. After starring in two Spider-Man films of his own back in the mid-2000s, fans were beside themselves to watch Garfield join forces with the O.G., Tobey Maguire, and the latest, Tom Holland, in theaters.

Now it seems the bond among the Peters has grown into a strong friendship. “I got a sweet, sweet text from Tom and Tobey. Very, very sweet,” Garfield said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast earlier this week, regarding his nomination. “The Spider brothers are in action today, and they've been very, very supportive. It's very lovely.” Spider brothers!!!

Playing your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is not the only thing Garfield has in common with Holland and Maguire. Famously, all three actors have dated their costars from the franchise. Maguire briefly dated his Mary Jane, Kirsten Dunst, while Garfield dated costar Emma Stone for years before their split in 2015.

Though warned against it, Holland kept the tradition alive and is currently getting very serious with Hollywood A-lister Zendaya, who plays MJ in the most recent Marvel franchise. Amy Pascal, the former Sony movie exec behind the first five Spider-Man movies, told The New York Times that she gave the costars the same advice she once gave Garfield and Stone.

“I took Tom and Zendaya aside, separately, when we first cast them and gave them a lecture: ‘Don’t go there—just don’t. Try not to,’” she told the Times. “I gave the same advice to Andrew and Emma. It can just complicate things, you know? And they all ignored me.”

Maguire and Holland may be sending the Oscar nominee sweet messages, but Garfield recently revealed that Stone gave him a bit of a hard time over text when he was still keeping his return to Spider-Man a secret.

“Emma kept on texting me,” Garfield said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast back in January. “She was like, ‘Are you in this new Spider-Man film?’ And I was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.’”

He continued, “She was like, ‘Shut up. Just tell me.’ I’m like, ‘I honestly’—I kept it going, even with her. And then she saw it. She was like, ‘You’re a jerk.’”
