We took the boat to visit the medieval city of Yvoire which is ranked among the most beautiful villages in France. The arrival by boat allows visitors to admire the typical silhouette of this city with its church and castle.
The last time we went to Yvoire we were planning our wedding and thinking about taking the boat over with our family for a meal after our civil marriage service in Geneva.
Our numbers have certainly increased for this second visit but it was just as beautiful as we remembered.
We found half price day passes for the CGN boat trip on QoQa last year and had been waiting for the Yvoire line to open (and indeed for the sun to make an appearance) before using them. Sunday was the day!
Last time we took the train from Geneva to Nyon but this time we decided to park in Nyon and take the first boat of the morning which left at 10.45. We decided to put Elio in the pushchair as he’s been a bit irritable the last few days and we thought he’d be more comfortable like that. We were expecting we would have to get him out to board the boat but we didn’t and we were given a hand to get him on board by the crew which was much appreciated.
We sat at the front of the boat to make the most of the view and were glad we had brought our jumpers as it got a bit chilly in the breeze out there. The ride is short and 20minutes later we were arriving at Yvoire.
Yvoire is a small medieval village on the shores of Lake Léman in Haute Savoie. It’s often referred to as one of the prettiest villages in France and it’s easy to see why with it’s little streets, abundant floral displays and multitude of charming boutiques and restaurants.
We started with a nice stroll around and popped into a restaurant to reserve a table for lunch before heading down to the lake to soak up some sunshine. We were amongst the first diners in the restaurant and noticed that it filled up quickly and people were being turned away. This seemed to be the case as we walked through the village later so it really is a good idea to book or arrive early. It’s a very popular tourist spot, especially in the height of summer so everywhere gets crowded quickly.
After lunch we went for another walk near the castle and had hoped to visit the Jardin des Cinq Sens but it doesn’t open until April so we will have to go back for that.
It’s a really nice outing and a great place to take visiting guests.
